To quickly space items evenly in Canva, select all the elements, click Position in the top menu, and choose Tidy Up for automatic alignment. If needed, manually adjust spacing via Position > Space Evenly and fine-tune using alignment options.
I love Canva for how it provides intuitive features that helps us to create designs quickly and easily. One of these helpful features is the ability to space items evenly with just one click. In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to evenly distribute elements in Canva using the ‘Tidy Up’ and alignment tools.
Table of Contents
ToggleStep 1: Add Elements to Your Canva Design
- Open Canva and create a design or open an existing design.
- Insert your elements (e.g., a shape, text box, or image) onto your canvas.
Step 2: Select All Elements
- Click and drag your cursor to select all the elements you want to align.
- Alternatively, hold the Shift key and click on each element individually to select multiple objects.
Step 3: Space Evenly Using ‘Tidy Up’
If the elements are not spaced evenly, Canva provides an easy one-click option.
Select all the elements and then right click. You will see the Tidy Up button. Click on it. This will automatically space the elements evenly, aligning them in a neat layout.
If the elements are already spaced evenly in one direction (vertically or horizontally), Canva may only provide the necessary adjustment option.
Step 4: Manually Adjust Spacing (If Needed)
- If ‘Tidy Up’ does not achieve the desired spacing, go to Position > Space Evenly.
- Choose either:
- Vertically: Spaces elements evenly along the vertical axis.
- Horizontally: Spaces elements evenly along the horizontal axis.
Step 5: Fine-Tune Your Layout
If elements are slightly misaligned, you may need to combine different alignment options.
Experiment with both vertical and horizontal alignment to achieve a perfectly balanced design.
Option: Align Elements in a Specific Way
If you want to align elements in a more flexible way, then instead of using the Tidy Up Option, use the Position option.
Click on the Position button in the top menu.
Use the alignment options to adjust positioning:
- Left Align: Aligns all selected elements to the left.
- Right Align: Aligns all selected elements to the right.
- Center Align: Centers all elements vertically or horizontally.
